Frog or Finish

I haven’t written for a few days as I have been catching up on laundry (the washing machine froze in the basement so we bought another one off someone in town) and yes even crocheting! The yarn diet has been blown to pieces. I bought some Lopi from Custom Woolen Mills. This is for a cardigan for Hannah from Loop d Loop Crochet. I also ordered a swift. I have found out if you want a swift you get your husband to stand there with a hank of almost 600 yards of sock weight yarn while you wind it and then casually mention that they have actually invented something to hold hanks but they are a little pricey. Voila! You are able to buy a swift! I ordered the swift from Elann. They also had some nice Peruvian Highland Wool in a Mallard colourway which I though would be great for Rhys who is 5 this spring. I threw in the book Cute Crochet For Kids as I try to make something for the kids for their birthday. Boys are harder to find patterns for than girls.

This month is February and it is officially Frog or Finish Month. Last night I frogged two projects (sorry Alke I frogged the novelty yarn hat as I knew I would never finish it) that were never going to get done any time soon. I am also making a mesh shopping bag. I am almost done. I figure I can really stash bust if I can make enough without getting bored. I have a fair amount of cotton in my stash but in one or two skein amounts. I am really going to make an effort to finish some of these WIPs I have. Two afghans is a bit of a challenge but I am sure if I just focus I can get them done (leaving three small projects left). I have three projects I want to start (no afghans because they take too long). One is Eva’s Shawl. I have some Schaefer Anne in a raspberry mocha colourway that I want to use for this. I am only 5 feet tall so I am confident I will have enough yarn for this shawl. I am not a real shawl person (although I love the look of shawls) but where I live doesn’t have sidewalks so Brendan and I are not getting another stroller for this baby and will just rely on my collection on baby carriers (with another in the mail). A shawl is more practical in the summer over a baby in a sling. Actually, we are one of the only communities outside of Whitehorse that has paved streets in the whole Yukon so I guess I shouldn’t complain about not having sidewalks. I do live in the sticks I admit. The other two projects are the cardigan for Hannah using that Lopi I mentioned earlier and a sweater for Rhys for his birthday.

Here is the mesh grocery bag:

Dear girl, thank you so much for the instructions on How To Obtain a Swift. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. I’ll keep you informed on my deployment of this Plan. PS it’s Spring in Spain and the crocuses are blooming! OTOH, we’re already on water rationing because of the severe drought.

I didn’t know about Frog or Finish Month, but I am working on finishing a project that’s been sitting still for two years, so that’s good!

Nice blog, by the way. I hope you get the CLF ring sorted out.
